Spanish workers respond to Coronavirus

On Monday March 17th, 5,000 Mercedes-Benz workers in Vitoria in the Basque country in Spain went on strike and shut down production when the company ordered them into work during a time of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown in Spain. This was echoed by other workers taking strike action for the same reasons: IVECO in Valladolid, the construction workers of the Amazon warehouses in Dos Hermanas, the workers in Aernova (an aeronautical factory in Álava), in the Balay factory in Zaragoza, and in the Continental tyre factory in Rubí (Barcelona). They demand that the employers should pay their wages during the emergency, and that their health should not be sacrificed for profit. These exemplary strikes need to be spread throughout Spain and indeed throughout the world, including the UK!
