Spanish Revolution: Commemoration and Lessons for Today

Online public meeting convened by the Anarchist Communist Group

Monday, June 1  •  7 PM – 9 PM

Discussion of both the highlights and limitations of this important event. What can we learn ?

2026 is the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Revolution, a momentous moment in the history of anarchist communism and working class struggle. It demonstrated what is possible when workers and communities take over factories, housing, services, and land. Unfortunately, it also showed the problems we face in uniting the working class and the dangers of Leninism as well as reformist tendencies within anarchism itself.

In this public meeting we will commemorate this event and discuss what lessons can be learned for today’s struggles. We will be looking at the highlights of the revolution as well as analysing what went wrong.

In particular we will look at: the Friends of Durruti, Mujeres Libres, and the land and factory occupations.
