Cleaners eye up strike action

The grassroots union Independent Workers of Great Britain has called for a strike ballot of cleaners at EY (Ernest and Young) . The cleaners are employed by outsourcing outfit ISS and work at the EY buildings at 1&6 More Place and 25 Churchill Place in London. The accounting firm EY talks about “Building A Better Working World”. It had a global revenue of over $31.4 billion last year. Despite this, it treats its cleaners in an appalling fashion. They have no job security or the conditions that the directly employed workers enjoy. As a result of a consultation “to improve financial performance and cost effectiveness” cleaners will have to do the same amount of work with fewer staff. EY and ISS have intimidated workers. A flash mob protest took place last week outside EY offices at London Bridge.
